We are delighted to welcome Rev. Matthew “Matt” Heckman as the new pastor of Court Street United Methodist Church. Pastor Matt is an ordained Elder from the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference. He has lived in Lynchburg for the past three years with his lovely wife, Laura.

Throughout his career, Pastor Matt has predominantly served as a turnaround pastor, helping churches realize their vision and purpose while empowering leaders to step into their roles effectively. His approach to ministry combines dynamic preaching and practical teaching, making faith accessible and applicable to everyday life.

Pastor Matt’s journey in ministry began here in Lynchburg, where he met his wife, Laura, while they were both attending Liberty University. He graduated from Liberty in 1989 and furthered his theological education at Asbury Theological Seminary. His deep passion for prayer, evangelism, and listening to the Lord has been a cornerstone of his ministry. He is dedicated to using our voices to share the gospel and has a fervent desire to reach and save the lost.

Most recently, Pastor Matt has been working at Virginia Memorial Park, where he has continued to serve and connect with the community. As he steps into his new role at Court Street UMC, we are excited to see how his leadership and passion will guide us in our mission and ministry.
