This Father’s Day, we invite you to join us for a special initiative that combines fun and philanthropy. We’re excited to announce our Father’s Day Mission, where everyone can wear their favorite hat in honor of their father or father figures. To participate, we kindly ask for a $10 contribution, with all proceeds benefiting Lynchburg Daily Bread.

How It Works:

  • When: Father’s Day
  • Contribution: $10 to participate
  • What to Wear: Your favorite hat, a festive hat, a derby hat, an Easter bonnet, or even a cap from your dad’s favorite team.

By wearing a hat and contributing, you are not only honoring the important men in your life but also supporting a wonderful cause that helps feed our community.

About Lynchburg Daily Bread

No matter who you are or why you’ve come, you are invited to the Daily Bread of Lynchburg.  Since they began in 1982; the Lynchburg Daily Bread has lived out our calling to feed people and to do so with respect and without condition. They are about nutritious, delicious meals, not eligibility.

Their Services

Little Free Pantry The motto of “Take what you need. Give what you can.” applies here. Located at the Clay Street site, this pantry is open for anyone to contribute or take items that might help someone else. This initiative is part of a national movement aimed at fostering community support and generosity.

Get Involved

  1. Financial Support: financial donations are critical to keeping operations up and running. Less than 5% of their funding is grant-based, and they deeply appreciate their regular donors, including some former guests who faithfully mail in $10-25 each month. Financial support their our greatest need.
  2. Volunteer: Nearly 900 annual volunteers cook, clean, and serve hundreds of meals each day. With a lean part-time staff, they could not operate without cooks, servers, cleaners, and maintenance volunteers. Our community so willingly gives of their time and talents that they’re often booked up to 8 weeks out for scheduled shifts!
  3. Food Donations: More than 98% of their food is donated from local colleges, grocery stores, restaurants, and other businesses. Thanks to the generosity of our community partners, they receive about 800 pounds of food per day! Please drop off food donations from 6:30 am to 12:30 pm any day. They are not able to receive your donation after 12:30, so please come early!
  4. Group Projects: They welcome these projects:
    • Make PB&Js to-go. They love giving out peanut butter and jelly sandwiches that guests can use for dinner or snacks.
    • Build a trail mix. Have group members bring various ingredients and create something delicious.
    • Break down bulk cereal into baggies. They can provide this as a quick to-go item for breakfast.
    • Bake hearty, nutritious bread, such as banana or zucchini.
  5. Bulk Food Donations: If you are in the food business and would like to make bulk donations of 100 pounds or greater, please contact them for more information.
  6. Other Ways to Give: They also have an account with Davenport & Company to receive gifts of stock. They also have an Amazon Wish List. Please note that Amazon protects donor information, so they do not tell us who sent a gift!
