Introducing Coins for Lent 2024

At Court Street, we’re excited to announce the launch of our Coins for Lent initiative, inspired by the spirit of giving and compassion highlighted in this article by UMC Discipleship.

As we journey through the season of Lent, we’re reminded of the importance of examining our lifestyles and finding ways to serve our neighbors with love and compassion. While the past few years have presented challenges in finding ways to serve while remaining physically distant, they have also reinforced the need for us to demonstrate compassion now more than ever.

With Coins for Lent, we invite our congregation and community to participate in a meaningful act of giving. Simply collect coins throughout the Lenten season, following our Coins for Lent Giving Calendar as a guide. Calendars are available in the Bishop Early Hall for those interested in joining us on this journey of generosity.

But that’s not all! We’re excited to announce that all donations collected through Coins for Lent will benefit Lynchburg Daily Bread, supporting their mission to provide meals and support to those experiencing hunger and homelessness in our community.

Here’s how you can get involved:

  1. Make a Plan: Discuss with your family the needs of those in our community and the opportunity we have to serve our neighbors.
  2. Start Collecting: Decide what coins you’ll contribute. Whether it’s loose change or a quarter for every item on the giving calendar, every donation counts! We will have the donation box in the Bishop Early Hall and Wesley Guild Room during worship on Sundays and Bible Study on Wednesdays during Lent.
  3. Reflect and Pray: Use the daily guide on the Coins for Lent calendar to reflect on all we have and how we can make a difference in the lives of others. Each Sunday, join us in prayer as we lift up the project and the people who will benefit from our gifts.

Our giving journey begins on Ash Wednesday and concludes with Holy Saturday, allowing us to make a tangible impact on those in need throughout the Lenten season. Together, let’s make a difference and spread love and compassion throughout our community!
